Bobcat Rank
The Bobcat Trail is an eight-step process that all new Cub Scouts must complete. When all steps are completed, your son will earn his Bobcat Badge (pictured right). New scouts must first earn this badge before they can be awarded any other award or advancements.
The following are the eight steps along the Bobcat Trail. You can also find this information in each of the Den handbooks. Have your son has completed a step, sign the area of your book and have your son show your den leader the step. Den leaders must record each step of the Bobcat Trail.
Learn and say the Cub Scout Promise
I _________ , promise to doy my best
To do my duty to God and my Country,
To help other people, and
To obey the Law of the Pack.

Say the Law of the Pack and Tell What it means
The Cub Scout follows Akela.
The Cub Scout helps the pack go.
The pack helps the Cub Scout grow.
The Cub Scout Gives Goodwill.
(For the meaning, refer to your handbook.)

Tell What Webelos means.
Webelos means We‘ll Be Loyal Scouts.
Being loyal means that you will keep the Cub Scout Promis.

Show the Cub Scout Sign. Tell what it means.
Make the Cub Scout sign with your right hand. Hold with your arm straight.

The Two fingers stand for two parts of the Promise – “to help other people” and “to obey”. The look like a wolf’s ears ready to listen to Akela. Give the Cub Scout sign when you say the Cub Scout Promise or the Law of the Pack.

Show the Cub Scout Handshake. Tell what it means.
Hold out your right hand just as you always do to shake hands. Put your first two fingers along the inside of the other boy’s wrist.

This means that you help and obey the Law of the Pack.

Say the Cub Scout motto.
DO YOUR BEST.
A Cub Scout always does his best when performing his duty.

Give the Cub Scout Salute. Tell what it means.
A salute is a way to show respect. We salute the flag to show respect to our country.

For the Cub Scout salute, use your right hand. Hold your fingers as you do for the Cub Scout sign. Keep the two fingers close together. Touch the tips of those fingers to your cap. If you are not wearing a cop, touch your right eyebrow.

Child Protection Excercises
Within your handbook there is a pamphlet containing several excercises that you must complete with your son. These exercises are sets of instruction and role-play, which are aimed at deterring potential child-abuse.
